Yesterday happened to be the Sesquicentennial (celebrated) of my
hometown, Quakertown, PA. I was invited and attended the grand
Sesquicentennial parade. What a surprise to see, strutting wholly
without security, down the middle of Broad street, but Eddie and Midge
Rendell, our fair Governor/Governess (and my East Falls
neighbors)!
They were followed in train by a modern convertable (contributed for the
event by local Chevy dealership Fred Beans) bearing childhood TV cowgirl
sweetheart Sally Starr.
All the marshalled might of every fire
department from Allentown to Langhorne (leaving half the state
completely defenseless against fire, it seemed to me). And the most
amazing fleet of flatbed fundamentalist churches you'd ever care to see.
