A Quick End
to a Stormy Day

The weekend of June 28 brought unsettled weather and needful chores. I sat out one spectacular rainstorm on the porch at my dad's. After a few minutes, it seemed like things had cleared up enough to head over to Green Lane for at least a little while. I didn't realize how little...

When I got there, the sun was shining, at least
in my little quadrant of the boat launch area.

Off to the North and West, though, dark skies indeed.

This pair of kayakers were already on the water, heading in.

And the fishermen on the bank didn't see apprehensive.

So I put in to the lake and started to paddle across the cove
pretty much opposite the two other paddlers.

I wasn't out but 10 minutes before a massive and ugly black raincloud
formed almost directly over my head. It's not the rain I would mind,
so much as the chance of lightning. Out on the water, the aluminum shaft
of my paddle would be the most attractive thing for random discharges of megavolts.
